oh please, that is NOT a racial slur. It was an ignorant comment by a meathead talk show host, but NOT a racial slur. WE know that English is spoken in the Philippines, but ignorant people do not. Jimmy Kimmel is just ignorant. And Josh Harnett's comments were innocuous.

I think we should draw a line somewhere. Which is offensive and which is satire? Do digs on personalities fair game or also offensive? Clearly, the Housewives line was not in good taste--and people have every right to protest it, but are personality attacks also offensive?

The mediocrity of the researchers, writers, producers and actors of the show reveal not only ignorance or carelessness but their uncaring attitude as well. Even if we want to get back at them, they have the larger audience. We have "no contest". Hollywood and the like are so protective of their money and rights , e.g., copyrights, etc - and, prone to prosecute. Why let them go easy with apologies. Best way is maybe a class suit by Filipino nurses' association, doctors' association, etc. - proceeds to be donated to charities in the Philippines.

I know our schools produce really good doctors because not only do they get a good education but they get a certain degree of experience that makes them stand out among other doctors in the world. If the line on the TV show was an attempt to be funny, it was not only not funny but offensive to many Filipino doctors.

As an American med school graduate, I have dealt with a fair share of foreign medical grads on some rotations through different hospitals. Amongst the FMGs, I'd say that the Filipinos were one of the brighter groups. Schooling in the Philippines, especially at the top programs, is rigorous, and many good doctors are produced. No, the comment was not offensive to me - because I am good at what I do, and the patients and other doctors know this too. The comment just may lead the public to think that all doctors who graduated from there are bad docs. Completely untrue!
